Kinky Boots – Casting Call

It’s been two years, two long years since grassroots Edinburgh theatre company Bare Productions graced the city stages in-person. We’re thrilled to share the news that not only with they be returning this Festival Fringe season but that the upcoming Kinky Boots is presently holding open auditions via self-tape.

This showstopper of a musical is based on true events and adapted from the British film of the same name in the mid-2000s. Kinky Boots shares the story of Charlie Price, who, having inherited a shoe factory, forms an unlikely kinship forms with Drag Queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled and pull the business up by its proverbial bootstraps.

Sporting some of musical theatre’s stand-out numbers – from Not My Father’s Son and Sex Is In The Heels, Kinky Boots tackles various social themes of misogyny, gender identity, class, racism and homophobia. Bare Productions are a committed Scottish production company looking to improve the industries’ diversity, welcoming in a supportive and educative landscape. They are looking for Black performers to play the role of Lola and looking for other POC, Disabled and LGBTQI+ performers to fill in additional roles within the production.

The initial stages of the audition process must be submitted by January 14th at 6 pm. Anyone looking for further information can contact Bare Productions at auditions@bareproductions.org

Full information relating to the process can be found here. And a Q&A for those unsure of the process or looking for tips will be held today (Jan 5th) at 7pm here.

And remember, if you’re not brave enough to strap on the boots – you’re more than welcome to bask in their crimson radiance by attending Bare Productions showcase when it unveils itself this August as they crash back into the Festival Fringe.
